Comma Rules

1. Use commas to separate items in a list

My friend jumped out of the car, ran into the driveway, smashed the six-foot hoop with a dunk, then ran back to the car.

2. Use a comma after beginning a sentence with a dependent clause

While I was driving down my street, I saw an enormous deer eating my neighbors tulips.

3. Use a comma to separate interchangeable adjectives

I eyeballed the beautiful, monstrous turkey sandwich.

4. Use commas to show non-essential parts of the sentence

My friend, having drunk an entire gallon of chocolate milk, ran for the door.
